Tig Notaro
Name at birth: Mathilde O'Callaghan Notaro
Tig Notaro's reputation as a stand-up comedian and TV celebrity has a lot to do with the health issues she faced beginning in 2012, including a double mastectomy that prompted her to do a topless act, scars and all, in 2014. She grew up in Mississippi and Texas, but her love of music overpowered her desire for school. Notaro moved off to Colorado to work in the music industry, then ended up in Los Angeles doing stand-up comedy. By 2006 she was working in TV, including a recurring role as a deadpan cop in The Sarah Silverman Program (2007-09). Notaro released her first comedy album in 2011, Good One. Then she had a series of personal traumas that she worked into her act, frankly telling each audience her experience, through darkly humorous anecdotes. She was in the 2013 film In a World..., and appeared on TV in Inside Amy Schumer (2013) and Transparent (2014), as well as her own specials, Tig (2015) and Tig Notaro: Boyish Girl Interrupted (2015).
